HELIOS TECHNOLOGY PREVIEW at drupa 2004:
HELIOS ImageServer to support IPTC and XMP metadata and multiple clipping paths

  • ImageServer will support all paths in images for image conversions and OPI low-res generation.
  • IPTC and XMP metadata support for HELIOS ImageServer layout images and image conversions.

Image files may contain multiple paths, for various purposes. The role of paths is gaining in importance as image repurposing becomes more popular. HELIOS ImageServer has long provided support for image clipping paths, with the option to honor or ignore them. At drupa 2004, HELIOS will preview upcoming support of all paths in an image. ImageServer image conversion, which converts image files into new files with different format, color space, resolution, or compression, will incorporate the original paths in the new image. And low-res layout images, used for placement in page layout applications, will also retain all of the paths contained in the high-res original image.

Another image and document feature of growing importance is IPTC and XMP metadata, which contain data about a file. IPTC metadata, and Adobe XMP (eXtensible Metadata Platform) metadata, are actually saved within each file, ensuring that this data is always available with the file. ImageServer will save the IPTC and XMP metadata into converted images and layout files as it generates them. Hence, relevant file data will be readily accessible even when converted files or layout files are in use.

The support by HELIOS for IPTC and Adobe XMP metadata increases the intrinsic value of files used by or created by HELIOS ImageServer. This standards compliant technology greatly facilitates the ease of integration with digital asset management solutions, and is already receiving extensive support.

HELIOS ImageServer 2.5 is part of the HELIOS 4th generation family of network and prepress server solutions.
