1. World of HELIOS – Apple's Developer Conference
Like every year, expectations at this year's San Francisco Apple WWDC were very high, although everybody already knew that some new Intel Macs were due. Highlights include moving to quad CPU computers, re-scheduling OS X 10.5 to match Vista's release date, and introducing more workgroup features (e.g.: Wiki, iCal and SpotLight Server). My favorite is the new iChat, which allows sharing the local Desktop during a video conference, which is pretty cool for remote presentations. Apple continues to be one of the most innovative companies in the IT business. Interested in learning more? Look forward to our next newsletter.

2. HELIOS presents the all new "dt" tools
The HELIOS "dt" tools are a great boon to system integrators, experienced HELIOS users, and scripting developers. The new HELIOS "dt" tools allow storing and working with client files on a UNIX server, while ensuring that Macintosh resource information, Windows file stream information, and meta data are left intact. The main UNIX file management commands do not preserve these extra file resources. But use of the "dt" tools allows safe command line and scripted file management, using the "dt" tools "rm", "rmdir", "mv", "cp", "set", "ls", "mkdir", "touch", "upd", "chmod", "chown", and "chgrp", "idinfo", and "iddump" commands.

HELIOS "dt" tools feature high Mac OS X, Windows, and UNIX compatibility and come with many advantages over the standard UNIX commands.

3. Acrobat compatible PDF preflight; podcast interview
Now, HELIOS PDF HandShake users can automatically inspect PDF files to verify printing compatibility, and conformance with standards such as PDF/X. pdfInspector3, the industry standard for checking PDF files, is automated by PDF HandShake to examine PDF files as soon as they are created. Automated server-based PDF preflight is easy to use, saves time, and ensures that incoming and outgoing PDF files are production compatible. Users get the same results as if each PDF was manually verified using Adobe Acrobat Professional. All details, and a podcast interview, are available at:

4. HELIOS LanTest supports Mac OS X Intel and 10 Gigabit Ethernet networks
HELIOS LanTest and HELIOS File System Test – the popular, no-cost, Mac network performance and compatibility testing programs – now support the new Mac Intel computers and 10 Gigabit Ethernet networks, a must for every admin. More information here:
