1. World of HELIOS: iPhone
We have tested the new Apple iPhone, especially to see how well it works as a Web client. You will be surprised, the iPhone is a fully featured Web browser and we are optimizing WebShare UB+ for it. You are welcome to visit
us at Graph Expo or IfraExpo to learn more about it.

Helmut Tschemernjak, HELIOS Software GmbH

BTW: We are still looking for more HELIOS UB+ testers. Watch our 20 minutes UB+ movie at: www.helios.de to receive an overview and download information. HELIOS is keen to receive your feedback to ensure that UB+ works great in any environment.

2. Bonjour – Hello to easier printer configuration
Apple Bonjour makes it easy to find and use local network resources such as printers, with zero configuration. HELIOS incorporates and extends this technology in our upcoming UB+ products. Now Mac users can automatically use TCP print queues, without having to manually add and configure each printer. The HELIOS implementation of Bonjour is called "MDNS Server", and is part of HELIOS Base UB+. It can route Bonjour between multiple NICs, and is used throughout HELIOS services. For example: the new Tool Server uses Bonjour to automatically find its servers without any configuration.

3. PDF as an image format
What is the best image format for today and the future? Today's designers expect image files to contain diverse elements: images in various color spaces, channels, spot colors, masks, clipping paths, meta data, ICC profiles, etc., and also to support various compression options. TIFF supports most of these attributes, and is a good choice for bitmap images. What about EPS? As discussed in our HELIOS Newsletter 4/2007, Adobe has made it clear that EPS is a legacy format. Why not consider a universal file format – PDF? PDF can contain both raster and vector content, as well as all the other object types mentioned. PDF has the advantage that it is easily viewed, and is excellent for long term archiving. HELIOS has long had extensive support for PDF documents. UB+ adds additional support of PDF images. ImageServer UB+ can convert all image formats to PDF images, and, convert PDF images back to any other image format. This allows easy integration and compatibility with current and future applications and workflows. We see this as the image format of the future.
