1. World of HELIOS: Future of DTP
Imagine, using a Web browser to browse a file/image gallery, to
drag and drop images into InDesign, XPress or a local project
folder, with dragged images appearing immediately, and automatic
synchronization between the remote server and the client. Imagine
having fun working quickly with remote files on a Mac or PC, getting
the work done faster from anywhere.
This dream is becoming a reality. See a presentation of the "Future of DTP" at the HELIOS drupa booth (Hall 9/E23). We are so
excited about this new way of working because it opens endless
opportunities. We’d like to share it with you.

2. FTP is out, WebShare is in
That WebShare offers easy sharing of server folders, compresses
and uncompresses files on-the-fly, and notifies users when files
are ready, we believe everybody knows this by now.
Previewing images, multi-page PDFs and InDesign/XPress documents
remotely within a Web browser, adding file comments and color
labels – we are not talking about FTP anymore, WebShare is needed
for this.
Proofing a printing process within a Web browser, getting an ICC
color-matched page proof remotely in Safari and printing this
proof, high-res on any local inkjet printer, and the printout
matches the final press. OK, it is clear that we are talking about
proofing. At drupa 2008, HELIOS presents WebShare with proofing
for everyone.
Everyone looking for a proofing and file sharing solution available
to any Web client is welcome to meet us at drupa. We welcome all
color management experts who would like to be convinced or just
discuss it with the HELIOS experts.
3. 16-bit Color
Prepress has been working with 8-bit per channel images over the
last 30 years. Today's digital cameras offer more, 10, 12 or up
to 16-bits per channel. Inkjet printers can process more precise
colors than 8-bit, even TV production starts using 10 and 12-bit
per channel.
At drupa 2008, HELIOS presents full 16-bit color support. It enables
16-bit images on the server to be re-purposed for different needs.
Color conversion can be done via "hot folders" or using
a command line tool. 16-bit color separation/matching can also
be used during output via OPI image replacement. Even 16-bit image
conversion to PDF and back is supported.
The following HELIOS supported file formats will now work with
16-bit color:

All image-data containing 9 to 15-bits can be converted into standard
16-bit format without losing any information. This means that
RAW/DNG data can be converted to 16-bit TIFF images preserving
all image details and using a standard image file format. Once
the camera images are exported with 16-bit quality, HELIOS can
re-purpose them supporting 16-bit scaling, 16-bit ICC conversion,
16-bit file formats and even 16-bit PDF-native OPI processing.
4. PDF-native OPI adds PDF page inclusion
InDesign pages can be exported as low-res OPI compatible PDFs.
HELIOS ImageServer/PDF HandShake offers "hot folder"
based image resolving which will output a high-res PDF at a specified
resolution, color managed according to server defined ICC profiles,
and compressed (G4/ZIP/JPEG/JPEG2000) within the PDF file, with
XMP meta data and other PDF attributes preserved.
At drupa 2008, HELIOS adds 16-bit image support and PDF inclusion
support. The PDF support works with the OPI concept, placing low-res
TIFF layout files that will get replaced by the originals when
exporting the InDesign "low-res" PDF into the pdfresolve
watched "hot folder".
The HELIOS PDF-native OPI also supports PDF document transparency
and can flatten it when needed. The new PDF file inclusion support
underlines the strong PDF commitment of HELIOS.
5. HELIOS drupa seminar: HD Color
The "HD Color" seminar will present future color quality
improvements utilizing the latest ICC 4 color technologies in
a full 16-bit per channel color workflow for image re-purposing,
printing and proofing. Learn how ICC DeviceLink profiles will
preserve separations when switching between different printing
processes.
