1. World of HELIOS
It was a busy 2007 for us, offering the SQL desktop database beta, adding Sun ZFS support, the release of the "mkisofs" UDF disk image utility, the "HELIOS Runs Everywhere" story, the UB+ public preview, the iPhone WebShare proofing support, and finally a lot of preparation for the new product generation. We are glad to have all this completed last year.

2. HELIOS UB+ is shipping
We are glad to inform you that the new HELIOS UB+ product release has been completed. The Software Upgrade Service packages and backorders, containing the UB+ CD023 with its manuals, were shipped to our distributors. We'd like to thank everyone involved in the planning, development, localization, documentation, and quality assurance testing, as well as all the customers and partners who have been providing feedback. We did testing of our seven products on the following platforms:

• Solaris SPARC
• Solaris x86
• Mac OS X Intel
• Mac OS X PPC
• IBM AIX
• HP-UX
• Linux x86_64
• Linux PPC PS3
• Windows XP
• Windows Server 2000
• Windows Server 2003r2-64

We all are confident that the HELIOS UB+ based products represent our best product generation ever. We are very proud of it.

3. HELIOS UB+ upgrade special intro pricing
We'd like to let you know that – for a limited time – all upgrades are available for 30% off the new pricelist. This offer is valid only until the end of January 2008. This offer is valid for every previous HELIOS product version. HELIOS UB+ offers compelling reasons to upgrade, and the user-based pricing makes it very attractive for small sites.

4. Mac OS X 10.5 – HELIOS TCP Printer
The new EtherShare UB+ release includes the new HELIOS TCP Printer driver for Mac OS X 10.4 and 10.5 clients. It utilizes the new Bonjour printer queue browsing support and synchronizes the PPD from the server to the client. Here is more background information about it:

a) HELIOS UB server sites:
For Mac OS X 10.3/10.4 clients there is no change, existing HELIOS TCP Printers using SLP work. Mac 10.5 clients don't support SLP anymore, therefore only the UB+ HELIOS TCP Printer driver will work with 10.5 clients. The UB+ HELIOS TCP Printer driver is available for Software Upgrade Service customers at:

http://webshare.helios.de

User: tools
Password: tools

As HELIOS UB does not publish queues with Bonjour, the server name or IP address, and printer queue name must be entered manually (e.g.: 192.168.1.1:myprintername).

b) HELIOS UB+ server sites:
All existing client printer queues using the UB HELIOS TCP Printer driver will continue to work. For changing or adding Mac client queues, the new UB+ HELIOS TCP Printer driver must be installed.

We recommend to install the new UB+ Bonjour HELIOS TCP Printer driver (u0700 or newer) for all 10.4 and 10.5 clients.

Bonjour published Remote LPR queues:
For basic printing without any queue setup and without the PPD synchronization the "LPR Bonjour Registration" can be enabled in HELIOS Admin, and the printers will appear automatically in the Mac OS print dialog (Printer > Bonjour Printers > ...) menu. No additional client setup is required.

Bonjour published HELIOS TCP Printer queues:
For more advanced printing sites with automatic PPD synchronization and large print job support we recommend installing the UB+ HELIOS TCP Printer driver on each Mac client. The "TCP Printer" option must be enabled in HELIOS Admin.

Download and install available updates first. The UB+ HELIOS TCP Printer driver is located in the "HELIOS Applications" volume and must be installed on the Mac client. On the client, take the following steps:

- Go to the "File > Print..." menu
- Choose"Add Printer..."
- Select "More Printers..."
- Select "HELIOS TCP"

The HELIOS TCP "Choose Printer" menu will list all local HELIOS Bonjour printer queues. Select one from the menu or select "Other..." to enter a manual IP address, click on "Add" and you are done.

Mac OS 8/9 clients:
The UB+ release does not include SLP support anymore. The existing MacOS 8/9 HELIOS TCP Printer driver can still be used but the IP address must be entered manually via "ipaddress:printer" in the Mac OS 8/9 HELIOS TCP Printer setup.
